How the advisor decides
- We work out the FPS of your CPU and GPU pairing in popular games at the chosen resolution, and for each game we decide which side - the processor or the graphics card - hits its own ceiling.
- The side that limits more games is your bottleneck - replacing it gives the biggest FPS jump for the same money.
- From the more powerful models we pick up to four candidates, recalculate the FPS with each one and show the gain as a percentage along with the real price in the shops.
Frequently asked questions
Is it worth upgrading just the RAM?
RAM only helps when you have too little of it - below 16 GB games stutter and drop frames. If you already have 16 GB or more, extra RAM barely changes FPS - upgrading the processor or the graphics card does far more.
Will a new processor fit my motherboard?
It depends on the socket and the BIOS: the new processor has to use the same socket, and an older board may need a BIOS update. Check compatibility in the configurator before you buy - it only shows parts that work with each other.
